I saw this beauty outside my local hardware store. W221 S63 sitting on Brabus wheels. I prefer the post facelift ‘221 chassis cars but I would take this one in a heartbeat.

I was waiting for one of these posts to pop up... what is DOTS?
I am gonna go with ‘discovered on the street’. Please confirm.

I believe it’s “down on the streets” after a former author who used to post pictures of cars he saw on the streets with that tag .

Down On The Streets is the most common meaning.

These are depreciating quite nicely too. They don’t seem to be too unreliable from what I have read, but the mileage will be excruciating.
When my last lease was up, I tried looking for a late run W221 S350 Bluetec with the right options (all of them) and the right colors. No dice.

I looked into S350 blue tec’s for a little bit too. I could either find them in the right color with no options, or the wrong colors with every single option. S550's are much easier to find in the right spec.

And it usually applies only to street-parked cars (which adds to the rarity of nice cars in downtown or historical areas), but we all use it for just about anything cool now.

Hopefully my next car after the S600 will be a late run W221 S65. Preferably like this one but with the Designo interior.

The loaded cars I would find were always black on black. No thanks, too much work. Or I would find one I like (diamond white, brown, etc) with no options. So many more S550s and even AMGs out there, the odds are better.
I ended up in an E250 Bluetec, unusually loaded, which I like.

They should be at W220 S65 money, eventually.
A local specialty lot has a 2010 S65, dark blue with cashmere quilted interior, high option load as expected, original MSRP 205K. At 41K miles, they want 65K for it, which may be dear.

I’d say 65 is a bit much for a ‘10. I'd go with 55-57 if only because of the low miles.

I agree. This seller is notoriously high priced, I think they expect people to negotiate. And with the year being more than half over, W221 will be just another year out - early W222 are hitting that price now.

I’ve talked to a few local dealers about hypothetically ordering a new S600, but they keep telling me that it’s been discontinued and that I can only order a Maybach or a 65. It really pisses me off that they’re willing to blow smoke up my ass over $20 grand. It also disturbs me that they’d be willing to risk losing a $170,000 sale just to upsell someone to a Maybach.

I don’t think I have ever seen a W222 S600. I have seen numerous S63s, a few S65s, and a few Maybachs. I think the Maybach may have effectively taken that spot in the lineup.
Speaking of Maybach, the local Bentley dealer had a nice 2004 57, maybe 40K miles, but at something like 85K, I had to laugh. Running costs would drive one to bankruptcy, but it would knock em out at the yearly MBCA event here.

They're all over auto trader, even 2016 models. If I were going to buy a Maybach I'd go for a 62S with no partition. It's the closest thing to a modern 600 we're ever likely to see.

I wonder if the new Maybach has stolen its thunder - the buyer at that range might want the different looks and aura of exclusivity.
Those 00s Maybachs have to be money pits, but one like you describe would be tempting just for unicorn status, and it would attract attention at shows. I think I have only ever seen a few either 57 or 62 on the road.

My friends boss gets chauffeured around in a red 62. That’s the only one I’ve ever seem outside of an airport. According to AMG tech Maybach service/parts is stupid expensive, even compared to my S600. A new alternator costs as much as i paid for my car and its $12k every 40,000 miles. If W222 Maybachs depreciate well I could definitely see it as an alternative to a W221 S65.
